Cecilia in Oceano originates from the awareness of the importance of sport, as a vehicle for messages and testimonies of life.

CECILIA ZORZI the skipper

Cecilia is a sailor, born and raised in the beautiful mountains of Trentino. She is always been attracted to water, seas and oceans, and at 6 years old she started sailing on the small Caldonazzo lake. There, her journey in the youth classes began, culminating in an Olympic campaign with the “flying” catamaran Nacra 17.

After many years of dinghy racing, Cecilia fell in love with offshore sailing. since then, she sailed both short-handed and full-crewed, racing in the North sea, in the Atlantic Ocean, and completing three non-stop tours of Italy.

MINI TRANSAT 2025 the race

The Mini Transat is a transatlantic crossing, to be completed solo, without assistance and contacts with the land. Every two years ninety skippers leave the french coast for the Canary Islands, an obligatory stop before the long journey to the Caribbean.

The class rules prohibit the use of cartographic GPS, navigation software and satellite connections. The skippers are therefore forced to refine their meteorological knowledge and passage planning. In extreme cases, the only way to establish the position is with the use of sextants and ephemeris, a real blast from the past!

The need to deal with everything alone makes this regatta a fundamental step for sailors who want to specialize in solo or short-handed saiiling.

BEYOND SPORT the goal

Cecilia in Oceano was born from Cecilia’s desire to combine her great passion for sailing with the need to fight for even greater causes.

In sport as in life, every day we witness all kinds of discrimination. We are particularly susceptible to gender discrimination, and that’s why one of the goals of this project is to create opportunities for girls and women who have the skills, but not the possibility to use them. Cecilia wants to be an example for young sailors and demonstrate that talent has no gender.

The first step in any battle is giving visibility and spreading awareness, which is why Cecilia is a proud ambassador for Women&Tech – Associazione Donne e Tecnologie.
